Defend Afrin! Stop the arms fair!

DPRTE, Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, Mary Ann St, Cardiff, CF10 2EQ
Tuesday 27 March, 8am – 4pm

The UK government and BAE are complicit in the massacre of hundreds of people by the Turkish military in Afrin, north Syria/Rojava (west Kurdistan) by selling weapons to Turkey. International solidarity and action is urgently needed to prevent a genocide.

DPRTE is an arms fair focused on promoting UK arms exports and facilitating networking for arms dealers. Many of its key sponsors are organisations connected to the government and the MOD. BAE will also be exhibiting.

Our protest outside the arms fair will be autonomous to the main protest organised by Stop Cardiff Arms Fair / Na i Ffair Arfau Caerdydd, so that we can make decisions specifically as a Kurdistan solidarity bloc. However, we will be protesting alongside the Stop Cardiff Arms Fair protest in solidarity with the campaigns against arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

The Independent recently reported strong evidence that Turkey has been recruiting former ISIS fighters. War crime allegations against the Turkish military and their hired jihadist mercenaries include the mutilation of corpses of women fighters, the use of chemical gas, beheading civilians, and the indiscriminate shooting of refugees.

In Rojava and northern Syria, people are organising themselves in networks of grassroots assemblies and co‐operatives, using the model of Democratic Confederalism, which emphasises direct democracy, feminism and ecology, and a multi-ethnic society without discrimination based on religion.

Co-organised by Bristol Kurdish Solidarity Network, Kurdish Solidarity Wales, and the Kurdish community in south Wales.
